Belgian central defender Thomas Vermaelen continues to be surplus to requirements at Primera Division giants FC Barcelona.

According to TMW, Inter are therefore thinking about making a move to bring the former Roma and Arsenal defender to the black and blue side of Milano when the transfer window opens in January. Everton and Anderlecht are also said to be interested in the Belgian defender.

Vermaelen can play both as a full-back and as a central defender and has tons of experience such as having once captained Arsenal, a few seasons ago. Therefore he could provide Spalletti with an experienced and versatile alternative, in case Joao Miranda or Milan Skriniar were to be either injured or suspended.

Currently, Inter only have former Hull City defender Andrea Ranocchia as back-up in the middle of defence, with Danilo D’Ambrosio or Davide Santon as possible options in case of an emergency. The experienced Belgian defender has however been plagued by injuries throughout his career, and this has detracted many potential suitors in the past.
