There is a before and after Spalletti in the modern era of Inter, where the manger from Certaldo in Tuscany is back to playing the protagonist in the Serie A. This has also been confirmed by Luigi Simoni, the former Inter manager, in an interview with ItaSportPress.

“I think the previous Inter managers failed to put the team in the right conditions to be able to compete, take Frank De Boer for example, he was used to playing a different style of football. Spalletti however is a wake up call. He is someone who is able to mix the group well and manage the players from a behavioural point of view. The team needed a manager who makes the difference and I think Spalletti is someone who makes himself heard and creates a great rapport with his players. It is totally different to before.”

Simoni was asked if Inter can dream big to which he replied “in football it’s easy to speak first and think after and we find ourselves having to backtrack and retrace our steps a little. Inter have great quality but Napoli and Juventus give you more guarantees right now. Sarri’s Napoli play some great football, whilst Juventus are always dangerous and for me they remain the favourites to win the title. Lazio are also enjoying a great start to the season and are playing well. Inter can certainly cause a few problems for their Scudetto rivals, they have a great manager. This season is going to provide us with great entertainment with 4-5 teams that can compete at the very top.”

Amongst the new signings, Simoni highlights the contribution made in technical-tactical terms by three players in particular: “Vecino and Borja Valero have an incredible quality. The Spaniard is technically a great player, whereas  the Uruguayan midfielder always guarantees you a solid performance. Even when they played together at Fiorentina they played well. They are two different players that complete the midfield well with great quality. Milan Skriniar is a physical presence, he has courage and knows when to push forward. Other good players have come into this team but in comparison they are “normal” players. For example it will be difficult for someone to take the place of D’Ambrosio. He is a powerful and reliable player. He is a guarantee, determined and fast. I like him.”
