Roberto Baronio: “I Told Andrea Pirlo To Leave Inter”

Former Reggina, Lazio and Brescia midfielder, Roberto Baronio, gave an exclusive interview to Calciomercato.com where he spoke about his former team mate at Reggina, the now retired Andrea Pirlo.

Baronio explained how he was a major factor in Pirlo’s decision to move from Inter to Reggina stating that “I fought very hard to bring Pirlo to the club as I knew that he was having problems at Inter. Everytime we were together with the Under 21 national team I would say to him to ‘come to Reggina so we can play together.’ I had basically become his agent and I was always telling the manager, Franco Colomba, about Pirlo. Then he spoke to Andrea and he finally arrived on loan.”

Baronio was contracted to Lazio between 1996 and 2010, featuring only 98 times and scoring thrice across all competitions and was also part of the Biancocelesti squad which captured 3 Italian Supercups as well as the last ever Cup Winners Cup in 1999.
