Former Roma midfielder Leandro Paredes has opened up on his summer exit from the Giallorossi to Russian giants Zenit St Petersburg.

The 23-year-old Argentine spoke on former manager Luciano Spalletti and how Spalletti’s exit was behind his move to Roberto Mancini’s Zenit.

“I was fine with him, but then he joined Inter and I realised I had to change teams because the new coach would not have given me the continuity and confidence that Spalletti gave me.”

Paredes then spoke on Walter Sabatini who was behind getting him to Roma but like Spalletti has since moved on to work for Inter.

“Walter Sabatini? I respect him a lot. He’s a great professional and I would not mind working with him again.”

The defensive midfielder has made 22 appearances for his new club thus far this season and got on the score sheet on no less than three occasions and also shared his feelings on his time in Russia so far.

“I’m happy in Russia right now,” he concluded.
