Inter’s impressive start to the season has drawn plaudits from many in Italy already. Now statistics show that this is in fact their best start to a Serie A season in more than 60 years.
Not even in their historic Triplete winning season in 2009-2010 did Jose Mourinho’s men enjoy a start as good as this. Inter have collected 33 points in their opening 13 games in Serie A and are still unbeaten. Corriere Dello Sport goes on to explain that Inter have only ever enjoyed a start as good as this once and that was back in the 1950-1951 season. In that season Aldo Olivieri’s team started with 11 wins, 1 draw & 1 defeat in a season where they would eventually finish 2nd to city rivals Milan.
Looking at the Inter team of today however, we can also add the last two games of last season to their impressive run. This brings their tally up to 12 wins and 3 draws from their last 15 Serie A games. An unbeaten run of games that is their best since February 2008. These are all impressive numbers that further support the great work being done by manager Luciano Spalletti.
Actually the first 13 games of 50-51 season were not necessarily better.
They were 11w- 1 tie- 1L.
That would be 34 points with the current 3 points a win system, yes , but apart from the fact of having lost a game it was worth 23 points with the 2 points a win system of the times , while our current run of 10w and 3 ties with that same system would be worth exactly the same 23 points and with no losses.
So, ” better ” becomes a relative word in this particular case.
we beat roma milan tied napoli away and tied torino at home only ‘Regrets” the bologna tie
Actually we never looked like winning the Bologna game.
On the other hand I think the Torino match was a good example of our over reliance on Icardi…he was having a bad day in front of goal and the rest of the team couldn’t step up…with 20 shots on any other day we would’ve taken full points home with Icardi probably bagging a brace. Eder’s goal off the bench saved us although that was again largely down to an Icardi assist.
As great as the start has been we need Perisic back on song, Candreva to finally score (although his crossing has been great lately) and the midfield needs to start banging in goals soon
Yes inter torino showed us that the Icardi addiction may become a problem at times.
And the other possible problem would be if one between Miranda and skriniar is missing.
Those are the 2 things we hope January mercato will help to fix.
Lets wait a few more weeks and pray to whomever god or lucifer. ..as long as it works.
