Marchegiani: “Inter Coaches Have All Wanted Different Things From Mauro Icardi”

Former Italian international goalkeeper Luca Marchegiani spoke on Inter’s Mauro Icardi and how his coaches at Inter have wanted different contributions from him.

“A Lot of coaches have tried to bring Icardi out of the 18 yard box,” he said on Sky Sport. He added, “For example, Roberto Mancini wanted him to be more involved in the game outside the penalty box. His current manager Luciano Spalletti however only wants a contribution from him in the defensive phase, as the creativity of the team is in fact on Borja Valero.”

The 24-year-old, who is Inter’s captain, has scored 13 goals this season in 13 Serie A games this season including a memorable hat trick in the Milan derby back in October.

Icardi is under contract with the Nerazzurri for a further four seasons through to 2021 and in the past week has attracted interest from Real Madrid due to his exploits this season.
