It wasnt pretty, it wasnt easy but a big team gets the job done by hook or by crook. After a terrible start due to some great Cagliari pressing, who were buoyed on by their supporters, Inter managed to earn 3 points as a team. Inter stuck to their guns, went in for all 50-50 balls and got the result in the end against a Cagliari team that has won 3 out of their last 4 games.
Samir Handanovic – 7: Fantastic saves when they were needed. Busiest game in a long time. Deserved a clean sheet for his efforts but couldn’t do anything on the goal.
Danilo D’Ambrosio – 5.5: Shocking first quarter of the game, couldn’t get anything right. Slowly grew into the game defensively but needed a lot of help to get by tonight.
Milan Skriniar – 6.5: Poor start for the first time. Always ready for battle. Didn’t follow Pavoletti on the goal as he doesn’t want people to know he’s from Krypton.
Joao Miranda – 6.5: Got an early booking for a stupid handball to add to the early pressure we faced. Slowly got to grips with their forwards and never looked unsafe.
Davide Santon – 6: Just like D’Ambrosio he had a shocking start to the game. As they tired he started making his trade mark runs. Needs to work on his positioning.
Roberto Gagliardini – 6: Couldn’t pass, tackle or even just position himself correctly for most of the 1st half. In the second half he was transformed into what we are used to seeing.
Matias Vecino – 5: His strength was lacking and he was losing all physical battles, but now we know he was injured. Didn’t have his usual pace with the ball.
Antonio Candreva – 8: Played like a world class experienced professional. That cross to create the first goal was brilliant. Great assist to Brozovic was the added cherry on top.
Borja Valero – 5.5: As a trequarterista, was hassled and pushed around like a rag doll in the first half. We had more control of the game when he dropped deeper.
Ivan Perisic – 6: This is a bit strange to decode as he goes missing for large parts of the game but always involved when we score goals. Unable to beat his man.
Mauro Icardi – 8: Captain. Leader. Fast becoming a legend. The first save from his shot came in minute 88. He had 2 goals in 3 attempts by then. Unstoppable.
Marcelo Brozovic – 7: When your first touch is that impeccable finish you know its going to be your day. And on his day Marcelo can be devastating. Ran non-stop.
Joao Cancelo – N/A: Had no time at all to show what he’s been upto in training. Glad to see Spalletti still keeps him interested. Maybe D’Ambrosio will play central defender soon?
Eder – N/A: Time wasting sub, didn’t even get a touch of the ball in his 2-3 minutes.
Luciano Spalletti – 7: Sore throat for sure tonight. Was shouting his head off during the hellish start to the game and somehow managed to regain control. MVP.
Luca Pairetto – 8: Pairetto got most calls right and was fair tonight for both sides. Yellow cards were pretty obvious and great use of VAR tonight. Refreshing.
Inter – 7: The Nerazzurri didn’t start like a big team, but then fought and got the result a big team would be proud off. Every deserved those 3 points and 1st spot.
