Former Inter manager Roberto Mancini is of the opinion that he deserves some of the credit for Inter’s stellar start to this campaign under Luciano Spalletti.

“Many of their players arrived when I was there. We had built an important squad: I am thinking about Marcelo Brozovic, Miranda, Ivan Perisic and even Geoffrey Kondogbia, who has been one of the best players in La Liga this season.

“I am happy for Inter. I knew it’d be just a matter of time [until they were back up at the top],” he told Domenica Sportiva.

Asked if he had any regrets about his last spell as Inter manager, the now Zenit St Petersburg manager admitted he had none.

“I have no regrets. Sometimes you need dignity, and if things don’t go well, you need the courage to make a change.”

The 53-year-old concluded by discussing the race for the scudetto this season.

“It will be contested by those currently near the top if they stay up there.”
