Former Inter goalkeeper Julio Cesar revealed the reasons behind him terminating his contract and moved to dispel rumours that this meant the end for him as many reports have suggested alongside teammates who have sent messages of congratulations for his career.

“In training I could no longer do what wanted and I realised that it was better to stop. I was no longer very motivated for the training sessions,” he told A Bola.

“I am very grateful to Benfica for everything they have given me. I will keep the great memories with me, because winning eight titles in three years is special. I understand that it is time to take a new direction.”

The 38-year-old then discussed what is next for him.

“I do not have a club, it was difficult to make this decision. Should nothing come up, then I think it would be a good time to hang up my gloves, but for the moment I do not think so, I want to clarify that.”
