Eder will be granted his first start of the season this weekend when Inter welcome Chievo Verona to San Siro.
Other media outlets are sure that Joao Mario was to start as the attacking midfielder behind club captain Mauro Icardi but Tuttosport instead report that the former Sampdoria man will be given the nod instead of the Portuguese.
The versatile Italian has made 11 appearances for the Nerazzurri this season all from the bench and has managed to score once and assist once in the 114 minutes he has played across those games.
The 30-year-old was recently rewarded with a new contract at the club which keeps him at San Siro through to the end of the 2020/21 season. He joined the club on a permanent basis in the summer of 2016 having initially joined on loan from La Samp and has went on to make 66 appearances in a Nerazzurro shirt since scoring a total of 12 goals.

.100% agree eder start over JM because JM just cant shoot
Another told you so moment for me. But, it’s only tutto anw. Can’t wait to see the game when this time we have opportunity to become capolista
I respect what Spalleti have done so far, and no one can deny that but this thing with Joao Mario is absolut nonsence.
I gurantee this guy is our best midfielder and he is one big colateral to Spalleti’s tactics.
Gagliardini is not even close to JM, and Valero needs oxygen bottle after 60 mins, so no one can tell me it is good idea to get rid of player we payed 40 milions.
We need rotation, we need an extra midfielder who can play more ofensive role, and we definitely need more creativity
As an Inter big fun, hope Spalleti is going to change something before our luck let us down.
While I agree that Joao Mario has fallen victim to tactics but at the end of the day we need players that function within the tactics of the team, particularly if those tactics are reaping rewards as is the case now. I don’t see Joao Mario having the physicality to replace the toughness that Gagliardini and Vecino bring to the deeper midfield positions. One could argue that he could be a better midfield general than Valero but don’t think Spalletti believes that and his opinion counts the most. Finally he could stake a claim for the trequartista role but lets be fair to Spalletti who gave him a few tries in that role but he has always flattered to deceive.
As much as I would like him to stay, playing him in a deeper role will shift the defensive balance and he isn’t cutting it upfront as a trequartista. Its World Cup year and its only fair that he is looking for playing time. Accordingly, I think if we can get 30mn+ for him it would be a win-win for everyone and we could perhaps put that money towards a proper trequartista like Pastore to add quality in that department and also perhaps get our hands on a center back.
Agree mate! I still believe J. Mario better than Brozo others than in shooting ability. He is still young and need consistence playing time. But for now Vecino, Gaglia, B. Valero is a best option. It will be a shame if we let him go in January
I have just watched some Inter training videos and , at least in the training matches I watched, you can clearly notice one thing that Spalletti is testing :
JM and BV side to side in the middle ,in front of the defense ,while Brozo operates 10-20 feet forward.
One thing some may want to know:
Vecino is fully recovered and he did an almost full training session and a training match in the field with the rest of the group. today
He has literally nothing, apart from the minimum precaution ..
He COULD start Sunday.
Not saying he will but , if it was really a matter of life and death, he definitely could and would start
Even if he could he shouldn’t…chances are we’d need him more vs juve than vs chievo.
For all his strengths Eder is not a trequartista and while he can play as a support striker I really don’t see the point of playing him in the hole behind Icardi as Valero, Brozovic and Mario are all better options. If Joao Mario sits out I don’t think it would be a technical choice but more to do with forcing him out which seems to be the strategy at the moment as we need to sell before we can buy.
I agree Joao Mario isn’t the ideal fit for the trequartista role with Brozovic and Valero both proving themselves to be better options closer to goal which is why I would think he wouldve been a good fit for the Chievo game starting deeper with Brozovic with Valero retaining his position as the trequartista.
While I would be sorry to see him go in the January window which seems increasing likely at this stage I would be all for it if allows us to bring in someone like Pastore or Verdi who would add more quality in the final third and be better fits for Spalletti’s tactics at this stage.
If Eder leaves we have no experienced strikers left in the bench , no safe replacement for Perisic and Icardi , he accepted his “quality sub ” status already , he just renewed his contract so ..final result :
Eder is never going to leave in January.
If anything we should add one more offensive element in the squad ,we are short as it is.
I was actually saying that Joao Mario is likely the leave in January.
Eder stays and while he hasn’t ever been good enough to be a starter for a top 4 team, I agree he has great attitude and at the moment makes sense to retain him. But if we get CL next year and we want to make a serious challenge for the Serie A and CL than we would need to add more quality upfront as Eder just not good enough. Given we have Eder and Pinamonti already on the bench it wouldn’t make sense to add another striker particularly as Spalletti only plays one upfront and think defense and midfield more pressing concerns.
Oh I see.
I thought you were talking about Eder.
On JM :
If we get someone like Pastore ,Rabiot or Torreira, he can definitely leave ,otherwise, if we have to change him for someone who is not that strong, safe or experienced ..I’d rather keep what we already have.
Yeah … Eder always gives his 100%
Right now i don’t trust JM
I’d like to see what JM can do, but Eder definitely gives 100% and if somebody from the bench deserves a start it’s him.
Eder is more aggressive when we lose the ball, so he runs his own back to chase the ball. Defensive point for him!
