Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has categorically ruled out making any type of move for a striker in the upcoming January transfer window.

The Frenchman was quizzed on the matter after his side beat UAE side Al Jazira at the Club World Cup amid continued reports that Inter captain Mauro Icardi is of interest to Los Blancos and another game where Karim Benzema failed to find the net.

“I will not ask for any strikers in the winter transfer market,” he insisted at the post-match press conference. where he also backed Benzema despite his poor form.

Many reports that have come out of Spain in recent weeks suggested that Real Madrid had identified Mauro Icardi, Bayern Munich’s Roberto Lewandowski and Tottenham’s Harry Kane as potential additions to their front line. Some of the reports even suggested a deal had been agreed in principle with Inter over the transfer of their star man and top scorer this season.
