Napoli’s Lorenzo Insigne believes that both Inter and Roma are at the same level as Napoli and can compete for this season Scudetto.

In an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport the Italian forward was asked what he thought this could be the right year for Napoli to end their 27 year wait for the Scudetto: “I think so, we know it & are fully aware of what we can achieve. In previous years we would’ve gone into a game thinking we could settle for a draw or a defeat wouldn’t be a bad thing.”

He was asked about the various managers he’s had at Napoli: “With Mazzarri I was still only young and it was my first season in Serie A, he told me in pre season that I had to compete for a place with Eduardo Vargas. I’ve always earned everything on my own strengths. I told him to make his choice but I would always work hard. I managed to gain his trust, even if I didn’t play much and in a role I wasn’t familiar with as the second striker. With Rafa Benitez I was played wide, even if it was in a different system. I accepted that role because it was right to follow a manager with his experience. I had to play the whole left side which helped me to understand defensive movements too. Sarri asked me to play as Trequartista initially but when things didn’t go too well he changed the system to a 4-3-3 which is a system I prefer & used to play in with Zeman. The movements are different & they come more naturally to me.”

Napoli lost their massive game at home to Juventus in Serie A recently with former team mate Gonzalo Higuain scoring the winner for the champions. He was asked what he thought of the Argentine’s controversial celebration “I won’t tell you what I said but I approached himand said something in Neapolitan dialect , he understood me. I was disappointed because he spent 3 years here. Without taking into account the choices he made & the eventual end to his time here. I have nothing more to say on the matter. Last year he scored against us in Turin and didn’t celebrate out of respect and he did the same in Naples. This year he decided not to do the same. I feel he should have had a little bit more respect to us, his former teammates. He claims to be our friend & was messagin us before the game for him then to celebrate like that in front of our faces? I felt he lacked respect.”

Finally he was asked about the possibility of Campione d’Inverno. The Winter Champions title that Napoli can secure in the next two games: “I’d prefer to be champions come the Spring… two years ago we were around the furst positions but the season ended up with Juventus as champions, This year will be tough for everyone. Inter & Roma are at the same level as us. It’s going to be fun!”
