Fiorentina chairman Mario Cognigni spoke on the upcoming fixtures with Serie A’s Chinese owned duo Milan and Inter.

Tomorrow the Viola welcome Milan and Gazzetta dello Sport asked Cognigni on what he thinks of the Rossoneri’s financial situation.

“I am not sure about the accounts of other clubs. [I know that] Milan proposed voluntary agreement for Financial Fair Play has been refused by UEFA. After a €240 million odd spending spree in the mercato they are certainly not in the position they would have hoped to have been in.”

Cognigni then discussed Inter and their situation with regards to how they will tackle the upcoming mercato.

“I understand that Suning are responding to requests for reinforcements from the manager in the January transfer market. The announcement of a self-financing mercato in a year when the Nerazzurri aspired to the Scudetto is a litmus test.”

He concluded the interview speaking on owners in Serie A investing big sums of cash in to the Italian game.

“I don’t think the Italian owners and also foreign ones have an interest to invest hundreds of millions in to the blind pit which is Italian football, where investing an immense amount does not guarantee safe results.”
