Former Inter’s Sporting director Marco Branca today spoke to Corriere dello Sport. The 52 year old Italian once helped Inter to secure the likes of Diego Milito, Lucio, Wesley Sneijder etc and left the club in 2014. In his brief interview, he highlighted the ongoing Coutinho transfer saga:
“I am also hearing he will be joining Barcelona for huge sum. When I was at Inter I bought him for pretty less. It was about € 4m.”
Then he went on to talk about Inter’s current situation:
“Inter needs some reinforcements. But the thing is they don’t have Uefa Champions League to play at this season. So it may seem difficult to attract player who can be decisive for the team in this window.”
“I think they should target someone who has a similar profile like Vecino. He can do a lot of running, can have a good work ethic and be a precious asset for the team.”
Branca forgot Coutinho was only 14 and he paid that much to a second division club …. in my view that’s a lot of money bro
OH I MISS MARCO BRANCA, NOT THAT RUBENTINI THOUGH.
and then kovacic came
U signed him for 4 and sold him for 8. Now shut up!
…and thanks to Farcical Fair Play he was sold for peanuts.
Well.. no matter what one thinks of Branca ..he is right about this one.
And he ,with Oriali , was also in charge of the 2009-10 mercato , when we sold Ibra and got Eto’o -Milito -Motta-Lucio -Sneijder and even some extra $ in our pockets ..the smartest Inter mercato ever.
He also did a lot of ridiculously , grossly wrong operations ..to be fair and complete about him..
I think that the mercato in 2010 was successful because:
1. Moratti asked Mourinho which players to buy
2. When Branca approached the players, they simply accepted because they wanted to play for Mourinho and knew that he could win something with them
So I don’t really give much credit to Branca for that
