Alessandro Bastoni may not return to Appiano Gentile as soon as some originally thought as Tuttosport explain.
“Inter were considering bringing Bastoni back because Gasperini has barely used the young Italian this season, but Atalanta wanted large amounts of compensation for his extremely premature return to Milan, in comparison to the bonuses that were previously agreed during the summer mercato.”
As a result, Inter took their time and found a cheaper solution in the form of Lisandro Lopez from Benfica. Therefore, talks regarding his return will be delayed until the next few months.
Lisandro Lopez is only a temporary solution to the lack of depth in the centre-back position, meaning Bastoni could still make an early return in the summer, depending on Inter’s decision to redeem the Argentine defender from Benfica.
Furthermore, with Mattia Caldara set to leave Atalanta for Juventus soon, Gasperini may decide to directly replace him with Bastoni which would greatly benefit Inter’s future star. This will most likely be discussed with Atalanta as well, although Atalanta may also decided to outsource a new defender. The situation cannot be certain.
