According to what was reported in Spain by Defensa Central, a newspaper very close to the blancos, Real Madrid have told Inter to forget signing Mateo Kovacic on loan this month. There were rumours suggesting that the Croatia international could return to San Siro for six months, as he is seen as an alternative to Jiangsu Suning midfielder Ramires, who’s potential deal to join Inter has hit a few stumbling blocks.

Kovacic joined Inter from Dinamo Zagreb in January 2013 for €11m and was sold to Real Madrid for €31m plus bonuses in the summer of 2015. The young Croatian is seen as a long term replacement for Luka Modric at Madrid, however he has found it hard to find a starting spot in Zidane’s team ever since his move from Milan, due to injuries and the presence of world class midfielders such as Casemiro, Modric and Kroos. The Croatia international has 14 competitive appearances for the Merengues this season, providing one assist.
