During an interview with Radio Rai, former Inter centre-back Marco Materazzi discussed a range of issues concerning his former side, and Italian football as a whole. Here is what he had to say:

“There is still plenty of time to achieve the objectives set out at the beginning of the season. Spalletti is the right coach, as he knows Italian football better than anyone. That said, Allegri has proved to be a great coach while Sarri is also doing a fantastic job

“Are Inter distracted by the mercato? The mercato has been there for a long time, and it lasts a while. That’s a problem, but when you play for Inter you must take to the field to do what you are paid to.

“Are Inter in crisis? Napoli and Juventus are much better equipped, despite the fact Inter did well for so long. In the end, there has proved to be a gulf between the top two sides and the Nerazzurri.

“Škriniar? He reminds me of Samuel. He’s a great player. While he must improve further, he is already one of the best three or four defenders in Italy.

“Lazio? They are continuing from where they left off last season, so I take my hat off to Simone Inzaghi. I know he is very passionate about football, as is his brother.

“Favourites for the Scudetto? Juventus. They always know how to win when they step on to the pitch. Napoli are very entertaining, but must always play well in order to win matches. Playing in a very different style to the Bianconeri, Sarri is doing very well.”
