Last night Inter played Crotone at home which of course like the following five games ended up in a draw, 1-1. Inter lacks the ability to be able to take on men and actually dribble past them instead of stringing together several passes. It’s understood that they play a very possessive game which involves a lot of passing but several times today Eder and Candreva were face to face with the opposition and they both cannot dribble past a man. You need that electrifying dribbling no matter how calm and collective you play, a team needs that spark of brilliance and it’s not normal that it’s solely the bench players who can bring that to the game.
When Rafinha came on he made sure to take on players which is will logically open up space and it was only then that Inter looked threatening. Rafinha was even able to link up nicely with Perisic to take that beautiful left footed shot that was brilliantly saved. Rafinha absolutely needs to start in the coming weeks because his pace, creativity, and dribbling ability will dictate the pace of the ball going forward. No matter how advanced Vecino’s carrying abilities are, that’s not his role and you need someone comfortable enough to carry dribble past and take that shot when necessary.
Karamoh and Cancelo’s introduction to the game also brought that electricity and dribbling ability which is what we lack. With just these three players being introduced to the game we already saw a more attacking mentality and less fear to make mistakes.
Perisic played a very poor game, it’s a shame to say that his confidence levels are on the floor, that poor player needs to find the back of the net very soon. His lack of confidence is very evident because on a normal day he’s easily one of the best two footed players but today, he had three clear cut chances in the box but he just couldn’t find it in him to put his laces through it cross body and win the game for the club.
If Mauro Icardi would have played, the outcome would have been very different, Icardi would have ended his drought because today, the day he wasn’t playing, there was an abundance of quality crosses reaching the box. Eder did his part, he played very well but it’s no debate that Icardi could make the difference over Eder any day of the week on one of those crosses especially towards the end.
