Speaking to Premium Sport ahead of the match against Hellas Verona, Lazio’s sporting director Igli Tare has effectively closed every door to the renewal of Stefan De Vrij, announcing that the Dutch centre-back will leave the club at the of the season on a free transfer, as no agreement was found on a new contract. Here are his words: “Lazio gave De Vrij a lot and he gave Lazio a lot as well. We will thank him for his great work at our club, but in June our paths will separate. Now it is better to look ahead, Lazio has grown a lot in these years and will continue to grow a lot in the years to come, there are plenty of good players in the world, we will have to be good at finding the right ones. There are no agreements with other clubs behind this decision, we just didn’t find an agreement that suited both parties in the end. The Dutch defender has been strongly linked with a move to Inter at the end of the season. This news regarding De Vrij will boost Inter’s hopes of signing the player who will certainly contact the player’s entourage to make him an offer.
