Yesterday, after the second day training at Appiano Gentile, Luciano Spalletti spent an hour and a half talking to Corriere dello Sport, releasing an exclusive interview in which he has not dodged any topic, from Inter, to his past in Rome, passing through the future.
Spalletti, after 7 months at Pinetina, how much do you feel like an Interista and what does it mean for you to be an Interista?
“The excellent pre-season and the exciting start of the season gave me the opportunity to immediately feel the enthusiasm of our fans, an overwhelming heat that in a moment tinges you from head to toe, but it is perhaps in this period of difficulty that I am aware of my attachment to Inter. See our fans suffering and worried about the results of this period is something that really makes me feel bad and at the same time I charge a lot because I feel strongly that I want at all costs good of this team.”
If you could go back to last June, would you still say yes to Inter?
“I would answer with an even more convinced yes, with a capital “Y” but above all more aware of the task that awaited me In these 7 months I had the opportunity to see things from within and consequently to understand all the situations even better. We could say that it’s like when you have to renovate a house: an analysis is made, an estimate of the work to be done relying heavily on the experience, but it is only work in progress that you understand what are the precise actions to be done.”
If you were a journalist, what grade would you give to Spalletti’s work so far?
“I could consider a first part of the championship a 9 and a second part a 4, but the comment would always be the same for both periods: I gave everything I had every day.”
What kind of grade would you give if at the end of the season you reached the Champions League? And if you failed to reach it?
“In case of achievement I would give 10, that is the maximum. If we did not make it, I could give the grade after seeing how it was not achieved and who came in front.”
What was the greatest difficulty with which you have been counting since you work at Inter?
“The greatest difficulties arise from these continuous comparisons with the problems of previous years. These comparisons lead us to think that we can not do anything except wait for the storm to pass, when we need strong and immediate reactions.”
Realistically when can Inter lessen the gap to Juventus and Napoli? One, two or three years?
“When we can have the same continuity of results that for the moment is very different, time is like a rubber band that shortens and lengthens itself. Professional competence, along with a level of effort and continuous work out of the ordinary, is the ingredient that separates reality from the dream .”
What can Rafinha give Inter?
“The quality of his passes are proof of how capable he is to improve Inter”.
Real Madrid, PSG and Manchester United are all following Icardi. Give Mauro some advice: why should he stay at Inter again next year and in the future?
“Because the striped shirt is better than the others that are all solid and then, having gotten to know him, he has the character of a person to make the difference.”
Explain better the issue of virtual training to be entrusted to managers. Yesterday you had lunch with the club: have you talked about it?
“We assume that I never attack anyone, but I always defend the team at lunch we joked about it and given my latest results, they said that if they aspired to train a team, that should be mine. I have a deep knowledge of the people who make up this club and I can tell you that their only goal is the good of Inter.”
Why has Perisic had this drop after having played great?
“For Ivan, the same goes as for the midfielders: the drop and the difficulties these last weeks have had to do with the whole team. Then it is obvious that talking about one of the players who can make the difference, Perisic’s situation may seem more evident and problematic compared to that of other players .”
You have stated that at the end of the season we will talk about your future and we will be able to count on the results obtained after a year of work together. Should the fans have to worry and think that the roads of Spalletti and Inter could separate?
“At the end of the year the “inventories” are made in all the companies and the numbers and the analysis that can make anyone change their minds come out. I work every day with the maximum effort to stay at Inter as long as possible.”
I have faith in him, the same faith as I had once with the guy named Andrea Stramaccioni, who never lost in all his 3 Milan derby. I believe they’re the right man, and however disastrous the performance it wasn’t always their fault
Because all coach we hired never got player they wants .. that’s why all them failed..so this is management mistake
I support you Mister but stop being so stubborn with your lineup.
aye aye sir, we support you (me at least lol). just don’t make a crap with those shitty players, if you have to turn your head to primavera players to make inter better, just do it
His biggest mistake has been not giving backup players a chance in the first half of the season. Fans could have handled not being top if Inter did not win every game. Now the youngsters have little experience of confidence and cannot replace the overpaid useless experienced players.
If only the management support him by giving players he wants.
True that , I hope Inter makes it to the top four so we can all find out how far he can go
