Inter legend Nicola Berti was interviewed by Italian media outlet Gazzetta TV, where he spoke about the upcoming derby and his relationship with AC Milan’s Franco Baresi.

What was your best moment of the derby?

“There were many: the goal with five minutes left under the Curva Sud, where I then thank the Milan fans, then there was one in which a foul lasted four minutes, at the end of which I announced: “Now I will give you a goal”, and I did it, under the Curva Nord.”

And the worst?

“That famous 3-0 in the Italian Cup. We conceded three goals in 15 minutes, after 1-1 in the first leg, and at the half, Baresi showing me the three fingers in my face and I lost my mind: I quarreled with all the Milan players and not only that, even with those who were there on the bench. Craziness.”

You are one of the most contested opponents by the Rossoneri but also one of the most respected.

“Maybe more now that I stopped playing, I was just unpleasant, but because I had this extraordinary energy, I was a bit of a derby man, and not just me: Galliani makes interviews when he asks me when it was what made him more angry, it fills me with pride, but now if I get caught in the street, they smile at me.”

The AC Milan player that you respected the most?

“Baresi, in spite of that episode I was talking about earlier, beyond that hand-raised for the offside, I always bothered him, I broke his balls even when he had his shirt out of his shorts.”
