Inter manager Luciano Spalletti spoke to Premium Sport on the sidelines of the 2017 Golden Bench award. Firstly he discussed whether or not he believes Inter have now got out of the difficult period.
“I do not know. I have recognised many things in the last training sessions and games. I have seen many things being much better so I am confident.”
The 59-year-old then gave his thoughts on Argentina manager Jorge Sampaoli’s fierce words on Mauro Icardi that suggested the Inter captain will not go to the World Cup.
“He wants to know the other elements and there are so many strong attackers. Icardi already knows everything, maybe Lautaro Martinez knows something less and he wants to see him instead. He will then draw his conclusions and bring Icardi to Russia in the final team.”
Spalletti concluded the interview by refusing to comment on the Stefan de Vrij links and other potential transfer targets while insisting he and his team must work with what they’ve got for now.
“I don’t want to talk about who the club is looking at. It’s a mistake to put things on the table that don’t affect our immediate results. We need concentration and availability from the players who are here and need to take us to the top four. We need to support them, if we talk about others then people will say they’re in question and I don’t want to say that. I trust them. Piero Ausilio and Walter Sabatini do their job, it is normal for them to look for future opportunities on the transfer market. We have to work in depth with the players we have available now.”
