During an interview with RMC Sport in the aftermath of Inter’s 2-1 victory over Fiorentina in the final of the Viareggio Cup, Giuseppe Bergomi discussed Walter Sabatini’s decision to resign from his role as Suning Sports’ technical coordinator. Here is what he had to say:
“I was surprised. Walter is a well organised director and, in modern football where it is important to be able to self-finance, he could lend the club a big hand. I’m sorry that he has left the Nerazzurri management structure – he was a good character.”
Bergomi also paid tribute to Pierluigi Casiraghi, who tragically passed away late last night: “I’m very sorry. I knew him well, he worked with his heart and he understood a lot about football. He is a huge loss to Italian football.”
Indeed, the former Nerazzurri chief scout was responsible for discovering a young Mario Balotelli, before then Inter coach Roberto Mancini took him under his wing and developed him into an immensely talented footballer.
