Serie A expert Paolo Condò gave his assessment of Inter after the derby draw with AC Milan when he was a guest on Italian media outlet Sky Sport 24.
Condó began by talking about Mauro Icardi’s missed chances stating that “Inter are built around him, the formation and style of play is focused on making chances for the Argentinian striker to finish. He missed a great chance to win the game against Milan, however, if you look at his performances over the course of the season then his commitment and importance to the team cannot be discussed.”
The pundit then moved on to Croatian midfielder Marcelo Brozovic by heaping praise on coach Luciano Spalletti: “Brozovic has showed class from when he first joined under Mancini, however it is the work of Spalletti which has helped him reach a new level of quality and consistency.”
The recent revival of Inter can also be largely attributed to the coach, according to Condo who stated that: “Spalletti started with many victories, but more importantly he showed the ability to recover the team after their usual blackout. Much like Gattuso in Milan, the manager made the necessary changes to recover the team.”
Finally, Condo discussed the future of Inter predicting that “if Inter achieve their goal from the start, which was to qualify for the Champions League, then this season can be considered a success. For the first time in recent memory, they have a coach and identity to carry them forward – there is no need for a revolution. In the transfer market, there are already interesting names like Lautaro Martinez, Kwadwo Asamoah and Stefan De Vrij who are linked with a move to the Nerazzurri, but the redemption of both Joao Cancelo and Rafinho will also be vital to maintain the foundations set this season.”
