VAR Should’ve Been Used For Brozovic’s Disallowed Goal

Inter suffered defeat against Torino after a goal from former Nerazzuro Adem Llajic in the 32nd minute of play. However, the result could have been very different had Marcelo Brozovic’s goal ten minutes earlier been allowed to stand.

After a challenge from Joel Obi on Borja Valero, Italian referee Paolo Tagliavento whistled for a free kick to the Nerazzurri. Brozovic attempted to take the free kick quickly, curling the ball past Torino goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu in the process. However, the referee called for a re-take deeming that the ball had been in motion before the Croation’s strike.

FCInternews.it suggest that the VAR should have been used to determine whether or not the ball had been stopped. In fact, there is no reason not to consult the VAR as it has been protocol to review all goals this season – as Inter found out earlier this week in the derby. This episode was not contested by the players or management, however, as it was unprecedented under the new rules.
