Having already secured the services of Lautaro Martínez, Stefan de Vrij and Kwadwo Asamoah ahead of next season, Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio will now turn his attention towards reinforcing Luciano Spalletti’s midfield.

According to the latest reports from Tuttosport, Ausilio and his colleagues have identified Kevin Strootman and Nicolò Barella as the club’s two prime targets should they successfully qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League group stage.

The Dutchman’s contract with Roma contains a €45 million release clause, while the young Cagliari star’s value seems to rise on a weekly basis if you listen to Rossoblu president Tommaso Giulini.

However, much will depend on the future of Marcelo Brozović. Should the Croatian leave at the end of the campaign, Ausilio will focus his efforts on bringing Barella to Milan. If not, then Strootman will be his number one priority as it is difficult to envisage all three being part of the squad at once.
