Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri will choose one of three players to replace the injured Giorgio Chiellini against Inter on Saturday, Gazzetta dello Sport write.

The Bianconeri will be without their charismatic leader this weekend after Chiellini was forced off during the early stages of Sunday’s match against Napoli, with tests later confirming a knee injury that is expected to keep the defender out of action for the remainder of the season.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Allegri will choose one of Andrea Barzagli, Benedikt Howedes and Daniele Rugani to line up alongside Medhi Benatia at San Siro, although at the moment it is difficult to predict who will get the nod.

“Barzagli is in contention to replace Chiellini alongside the other two defenders,” they write, “despite having not started in Serie A since the 3-1 win over Milan on 31 March.

“Howedes seems to have gained some ground in the defensive hierarchies, while Rugani appears to have gone in the other direction: Daniele expected to come on for Chiellini against Napoli. As such he is growing ever more impatient and is beginning to wonder whether it’s really worth him staying at Juventus.”
