After a few weeks without a goal, Gabriel Barbosa was back amongst the goals earlier today as Santos saw off Argentine side Estudiantes in the Copa Libertadores.

Gabigol, who is on loan at Santos from Inter, opened the scoring on the 43rd minute in what turned out to be a 2-0 victory for the Brazilian side.

The Brazilian striker returned to his first club in January after a difficult 18 months in Europe split between Inter and Benfica where playing time was largely limited.

The 21-year-old spoke with Brazilian news outlet Globoesporte after the game and stressed scoring is not the be all and end all for him while revealing what is most important for him.

“It does not bother me when I do not score. A striker does not just have to score goals, they must open up spaces for other teammates and the most important thing is to help the team win.”
