Former Bayern Munich and Italian international Luca Toni discussed the ongoing links concerning Robert Lewandowski and Real Madrid.
“Real Madrid interested in Lewandowski? They still have Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale. He [Lewandowski] is a great player but not everyone has the same impact when they change team and city.
“I do not know if there is a clause in his contract that will free him, but if he gets an offer from Real, Bayern would be doing well to sell him given his age.”
Toni, who represented no less than 17 clubs over the course of a 22 year playing career, then gave his opinion on who Bayern should replace Lewandowski with if they are to sell him.
“Mauro Icardi.”
Since retiring at the end of the 2015/16 season, Toni has went on to work behind the scenes and spent a year as the sporting director at former club Hellas Verona but has not done anything since leaving the Gialloblu last summer.
