Inter legend Sandro Mazzola has revealed he offer former Inter president Massimo Moratti the chance to sign Cristiano Ronaldo as a teenager.

“I proposed him to Moratti at Inter. I saw him when he was 16-years-old but we had to pay a fee to reserve him for a year. The president did not like this option,” the striker, who spent his entire 17 year career with the Nerazzurri, told Radio1Rai.

Ronaldo left Sporting for Manchester United the season after aged 17 and went on to win all before him at Old Trafford during a six year spell before a then world record €80 million transfer to Real Madrid in 2009.

The Portuguese attacker, now 33-years-old, has set all sorts of records since joining Los Blancos and has now been named world player of the year on no less than five occasions over his entire career and is widely regarded as one of the greatest ever football players.
