Argentine manager Jorge Sampaoli will release a shortlist of 35 names in contention for a spot in the Albiceleste squad for the upcoming World Cup on May 14th. Among the names on this list, according to TyC Sports, is Inter captain Mauro Icardi.

The 25 year old striker finds himself on an extended list for La Seleccion alongside other fringe players such as Pablo Perez, German Pezzella, Guido Pizarro, Enzo Perez, Ricardo Centurion and former Inter fullback, Cristian Ansaldi who has had a good season at Torino.

Icardi has been in scintillating form for the Nerazzurri this season, scoring 28 goals in only 32 Serie A appearances. After an extended hiatus outside the national squad, he appeared back in the thoughts of the national team manager as he made three appearances during Argentina’s World Cup qualifying campaign, scoring one goal. After missing the latest round of friendlies, his spot in the World Cup squad was called into question once again.
