Barcelona must now decide how to handle the situation regarding midfielder Rafinha after Inter failed to exercise the buyout option for the player, according to Catalan newspaper Sport.

The Nerazzurri signed the Brazilian on an initial six-month loan deal in January and had the option to sign him on a permanent basis at the end of the season, for a fee of €35 million plus €3m in add-ons.

However the club’s problems with UEFA’s Financial Fair Play regulations meant that they were unable to exercise the option, which is due to expire on Tuesday evening.

Sport report that Barcelona now face a dilemma over how to manage Rafinha’s situation going forward, with the player still keen on a return to Inter.

The 25 year-old’s father and agent Mazinho is currently working with the club to find a way to lower the Catalans’ asking price, so that Inter can reacquire him for a more reasonable fee.

Barcelona must now decide if they wish to enter into new talks with the Nerazzurri or if they want to seek a new buyer for the player.
