Spanish source SuperDeporte has explained why Joao Cancelo’s chances of remaining at Inter are very low this summer. Two main reasons are pointed out.

The first is that Valencia, as the owners of the Portuguese full-back’s contract, are not willing to negotiate a lower sum than the €35 million agreement that they made last summer as part of the Geoffrey Kondogbia deal, not least because Inter were unwilling to meet with Valencia when they wanted to renegotiate the percentage relating to Kondogbia’s resale.

The second reason that played a factor in this broken down transfer is the competition Piero Ausilio will be facing. Valencia has also received a €40-million bid from Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers, while there is also possible interest from Serie A rivals Napoli and Juventus.

This has caused Ausilio to back away from Cancelo and to focus more on Barcelona midfielder Rafinha, who has hinted at the fact that he wants to stay with Inter.
