Inter legend Giuseppe Bergomi spoke exclusively with FcInterNews during the launch of a biography dedicated to the former Nerazzurri captain in central Milano earlier today.

Bergomi, who currently works as a pundit at Sky Sport Italia, was asked who he thinks is better suited at Inter between Radja Nainggolan and Rafinha or if if possible they should be played together to which he replied: “In my opinion they are alternatives to each other given how Spalletti wants to play. Under Spalletti, Nainggolan has scored double figures and if Inter want to play with a player in that role they need a player who can score many goals. This past year Inter have only been able to rely on Perisic and Icardi to score so from this aspect Nainggolan is more ready.

“However, I know that Inter’s fans are very fond of Rafinha because he has played really well but at this moment Inter have to consolidate on the good things they have accomplished like reaching the Champions League so I think both of them fit in but I can’t see them together because both of them will have to play behind the lone striker” Bergomi continued.

Bergomi, who was nicknamed ‘Lo Zio’ by the Inter faithful was asked about if Inter could be bothered in the future if Juventus ends up signing Joao Cancelo to which he replied: “This is a special case because the sum required to activate his redemption clause is very high, it has been said that it is around €35 million but in reality it is closer to €39 million. So €39 million for Cancelo is a lot even if he had a great second part of the season.

“In my opinion from this point of view no-one can say anything to Piero Ausilio because in this moment Inter cannot make these types of deals. Then we will have to wait and see what happens. In my opinion Cancelo is a good player even if he still needs to grow a lot defensively” the former Inter captain analyzed.

In conclusion he was asked if he thinks Icardi is the right player to be captain of Inter today: “Yes, he has been captain for a while and he has been a point of reference for everyone, especially for the fans.”
