Mazinho, the father and agent of former Inter loanee Rafinha, has admitted he hoped the 25-year-old could have remained with the Nerazzurri and revealed that they put other offers on standby in the hope that Inter would come calling.

“At Inter he rediscovered himself and immediately adopted the culture and developed great affection for the club. But, unfortunately, we have not had any signs from Inter. It’s a shame, because it would of been nice to play in Europe with them after our conquest for qualification together,” he told Gazzetta dello Sport.

Mazinho was then asked if he thinks there are margins for talks to resume.

“Their agreement with Barca ended on June 5th, so my son will now return to them. I feel like we have waited too long. Perhaps, if they really wanted him, they would of acted sooner with a lot more conviction.

“We have to evaluate what is best for him, because that is all that matters. Until today, we had put every offer on standby as we waited for Inter, who tried to lower the price of the obligation but now we have to find a new team as quickly as possible. The aim is to start the pre-season in a new shirt.”
