Despite strong links to William Carvalho, Mousa Dembele remains Inter manager Luciano Spalletti’s preferred candidate to be signed to reinforce the midfield according to a report from Corriere dello Sport.

Inter have an intermediary trying to convince Tottenham Hotspur to lessen their demands. The north London club are understood to have demanded between €25-30 million but Inter are unwilling to pay that much for the Belgian midfielder who has just a year left on his current deal.

Carvalho is the first alternative if a move for Dembele falls through. The Portuguese midfielder is one of many trying to rescind their contract with Sporting Lisbon following an attack from the club’s ultras. If he is able to terminate his contract he can arrive for free but Sporting are understood to be seeking legal help and things could become complicated if he is to join for free and could result in clubs going to the sports court to settle things. Even if they can’t get him for free, Inter are more than happy to acquire him for a reasonable price and are prepared to offer €10 million plus one of Eder or Yann Karamoh.
