Inter’s hopes of signing Roma full-back Alessandro Florenzi suffered a blow on Sunday after the player moved closer to reaching an agreement over a contract extension with the Giallorossi, according to Sky Sport.

Florenzi officially entered the final year of his contract on 1 July and has been struggling to make progress with the capital club regarding a new deal, prompting Inter and former boss Luciano Spalletti to make the Italian their number one target at right-back as they continue to seek a replacement for Joao Cancelo.

However Roma are determined to keep hold of the player and are now close to reaching an agreement for a contract extension, having made Florenzi a revised offer of €3 million plus add-ons in wages.

Florenzi himself is unwilling to leave the club he has played for throughout his career and is therefore expected to seal a deal shortly, despite the strong interest from the Nerazzurri.
