Inter legend and current vice-president Javier Zanetti reflected on his native Argentina’s exit from the World Cup and revealed what he thinks must be done if they wish to be successful again in the future.
“The cycle is not finished, but we must start again from Lionel Messi, Mauro Icardi and Lautaro Martinez,” Zanetti insisted in an interview with Channel 5.
Argentina, who Zanetti represented nearly 150 times during a 16 year international career, were eliminated at the last 16 stage of the tournament in Russia following a 4-2 thriller with France in which teen sensation Kylian Mbappe starred and scored twice for Les Bleus. As a result, comparisons have been drawn between Mbappe and Il Fenomeno Ronaldo and Zanetti weighed in on the debate.
“Mbappé has a great future ahead of him, but Il Fenomeno Ronaldo is another thing altogether. He had the ability to change the game in a second,” Zanetti said on the matter.
