Inter vice-president Javier Zanetti has tipped Argentine duo Mauro Icardi and Lautaro Martinez to be the future of the club.

“Both are the future of Inter, they can play together without any problems, and for this reason they could and should have been part of the World Cup squad, but it was not to be as there were many alternatives to them in attack,” Zanetti said in an interview with TyC Sports, a news outlet from his native Argentina.

Icardi recently celebrated five years with Inter and has been joined by Martinez at the Nerazzurri in the past week and a half. Martinez is expected to play as Icardi’s understudy this season but his arrival gives manager Luciano Spalletti the opportunity to use a formation that has two strikers should he wish to do so although reports suggest Spalletti is to alternate between the 4-2-3-1 and 3-4-2-1 systems for this coming season.
