Lautaro Martinez has now officially been presented as an Inter player and addressed the gathered media at his presentation firstly discussing his decision to chose the number 10 jersey and have Lautaro on the back of his shirt.

“I also wore the number ten at Racing so there’s no pressure. When I arrived, I asked if it was available and I was told yes. I’m very happy to be able wear it. I decided to put Lautaro on my shirt because it’s less common compared to my surname of Martinez.”

The 20-year-old striker then reflected on his first few days in training with his new teammates.

“Everything has gone very well, I was welcomed brilliantly. We’re putting a lot of effort and focus into our work alongside Luciano Spalletti. These first days have gone very well. It’s an impressive group on a human level. We all know what direction we must follow in order to work better and get ready.”

Martinez proceeded to speak on how the move came about and some of the people he has spoken with about the club.

Right from the start when Inter went to Buenos Aires, I began to love the idea of coming here. I know that I can make the most of my abilities in order to do my best for this team. I was in touch with MauroIcardi before I got here. I want to thank him for everything. I want to give my best for this team at all times. Diego Milito told me loads about Inter, he helped me a lot. He reached very high levels and won so much. Now, it’s up to me to do well.”

He concluded the presentation by discussing the origins of his nickname, ‘El Toro’ which translates to ‘The Bull.’

“‘El Toro’ is the nickname that I was given as soon as I arrived in Buenos Aires and it’s not changed.”
