Inter’s interest in Arturo Vidal is dictated by the clubs strong desire to return to winning. This is the sentiment expressed by former Nerazzurri midfielder Ze Elias in an interview with Chilean newspaper El Mercurio.

Ze Elias stated that: “It has been many years since Inter were competing for the championship. However, after their seven year absence, the club is back in the Champions League and they are looking for a player like Vidal because they want to win important trophies. The Chilean is experienced in Serie A from his time with Juve, so he should have no trouble settling in. As a player, he brings a lot of technical quality on the ball but he has something more important: grit. This will be a key ingredient to return a first class team like Inter to its former glory.”

The Brazilan, who represented Inter from 1997 to 1999, went on to compare the midfielder to one of his former teammates, Diego Simeone: “In addition to adding a lot of experience to the side, I think that the mentality which Vidal brings would encourage his teammates to give everuthing on the pitch. His game is very similar to that of Diego Simeone, who was a tireless and talented midfielder. Cholo motivated us all to do better, and I think Vidal can do the same.”
