Another defeat for Brazilian giants Santos, 0-1 against America FC, and another challenge for Inter-owned striker, Gabriel Barbosa.
FCInterNews report that, upon being substituted in the 74th minute, the player was applauded ironically by his own fans. The club has found itself in the relegation zone, and much of the blame is being directed toward their under-performing number 10. The 21 year old has scored only six goals in 19 appearances since returning to his boyhood club, and has often been found wanting in big matches.
Despite the external criticism, Santos coach Serginho continues to defend the one they used to call Gabigol due to his excellent scoring record: “He is a top player, but he is not a striker and he is struggling to perform to his best in that position.”
This support may disappear soon, however, as the club is rumoured to be considering making a change on the bench due to recent poor results.
