In a story that seems to be straight out of fantasy football folklore, the summer transfer market rumour mill is rife with the suggestion of a possible move from Real Madrid to Inter of Croatian midfielder and FIFA World Cup Golden Ball winner, Luka Modric.

Spanish newspaper Marca, which has always been close to the Madrid club, reports that the whole story is a very precise strategy set out by the Croatian midfielders entourage. Vice Director of Marca, Carlos Carpio took to twitter to say: “Luca Modric was one of the leading figures of this summers’ FIFA World Cup and is in line to compete for the Balon d’Or this year. He was also decisive in Real Madrid’s most recent winning cycle. Gareth Bale currently earns double in wages than what Luka does and his contribution to the team is inferior to that of Modric. His agents believe that the moment has come to sign his last big contract, whether that be with Real Madrid or not.”
