Just when it all seemed done and dusted, the transfer from Bayern Munich to Inter of Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal has now seemingly broken down. FCInterNews.it reports today that even though the deal seemed 99.9% done and that only an “unpredictable detail” would stop this deal from getting done, that “unpredictable detail” has now arisen. Now it would seem that Vidal is on his way to Spanish giants Barcelona.

So what has happened to change everything? FCInterNews.it report that Inter had an agreement in place on the economical side with Bayern Munich for them to pay €22 million total including his original loan and right to buy fee. Everything was also agreed with the player himself based on a three year deal and €4.5 million a year in wages. The Chilean player favoured a return to Italy where he played previosuly for Juventus until the summer of 2015 when he moved to Bayern Munich. Vidal had also already put his house up for sale in Munich and had already gad a provisional medical at Bayern in preparation for his move to Inter. Then all of a sudden Inter hit the brakes on the deal.

So now the breakdown. According to FCInterNews.it, Inter’s Sporting Director Piero Ausilio played down things with the players’ agent, Fernando Felicevich, almost in a polite way in order to free himself form the now imminent deal. At this point he understood that things were not progressing and he took the matter into his own hands and opened up contact with Barcelona.

It seems that Inter actually gave up on Vidal rather than Barcelona stealing him from under their grasp. The Spanish giants will welcome Vidal with open arms who previously had given his preference to Inter, also considering the wishes of his family to return to Italy.

It remains to be seen now if Inter abandoned the signing of Vidal in order to pursue another target or targets. All roads lead to one person and one name. That name doing the rounds right now is Real Madrid and Croatia playmaker, Luca Modric.
