Yesterday Sky Sport Italia broke the news that Inter had been secretly working on the possibility to sign Croatian international midfielder Luka Modric from Real Madrid.

One of the reporters who broke that story, Luca Marchetti, was interviewed on Radio 24 where he was asked how the idea came about to begin with. The Sky Sport Italia pundit stated that: “Inter received information from Mordic’s agents that told them that there was a chance for the Croat to leave Real Madrid. Inter obviously wanted to investigate this further to see if there was a plausible chance or not. The fact that Inter have a Croatian block of players certainly doesn’t harm their chances and could help them get closer to him.

“Also the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo could have also opened a road out from the club for other players as Real Madrid are yet to sign any big name players for the moment. In a transfer window as crazy as this one, Inter are doing well to think if it is possible to sign a player like Modric or not” Marchetti concluded.
