The news of the Inter’s interest in Luka Modric has, inevitably, travelled around the world in a few hours.
It is now a headline story in Spain, and was recently discussed by one of their major newspapers AS.
Rather than downplay the prospect of losing Modric, the report (written by one of the papers more respected journalists, Manolete) suggests that the reason that the player is even considering a move is the coaching change on the Madrid bench: “Be careful of the flirtation between Modric and the Nerazzurri. The Croatian is smart, and may have started to understand that his days at Real Madrid are numbered following the arrival of Julen Lopetegui.”
Ausilio’s dream signing still remains very complicated, but can certainly come to fruition if the player supports the move.
Modric was certainly a favourite under former manager Zinedine Zidane – making 43 appearances for Los Blancos despite an injury-interrupted season. He then went on to star for Croatia during the FIFA World Cup, earning himself the Golden Ball as the tournaments best player.
