Luka Modric’s intentions to leave Real Madrid stems from broken promises from Real Madrid president Florentino Perez according to a report from Turin based publication Tuttosport.

During the World Cup, Modric was questioned on Cristiano Ronaldo’s future at the Bernabeu and revealed he was confident that Ronaldo would remain based on the assurances given by Perez. Modric feels he has been lied to and upon learning of Ronaldo’s move to Juventus immediately began to draw up an exit strategy of his own the report suggests.

The report goes on to state that Zinedine Zidane’s exit as manager following three straight Champions League victories has also played a part in Modric’s decision to seek pastures new.

Negotiations with Inter have been ongoing for a few weeks now and could be helped along by compatriots Ivan Perisic and Marcelo Brozovic who are understood to have played a role in convincing Sime Vrsaljko to join the Croatian contingent at the San Siro. Modric, should he join, will play out the remainder of his best years at Inter before making the transfer to Inter’s Chinese cousins Jiangsu Suning to end his career.
