Inter Legend Javier Zanetti has warmly welcomed Paolo Maldini back to Milan in his new role as Strategic Development Director of the club’s sporting area, as reported by Gazzetta dello Sport.
The two players were icons in their playing days on either side of the Giuseppe Meazza but now, having left their playing days behind them, have both taken up executive roles in their respective clubs. Despite facing each other many times as rivals, the feeling between the two was always of mutual respect and that seems to have remained the case.
Zanetti is quoted as saying, “I’m really very happy for Paolo because he’s a great person as well as a great professional, someone like him will do well in the world of football in general, I have great respect for him. Now we are both in other roles, but the same esteem, respect and consideration towards him remains. In the next derby I will be happy to embrace him, as we have done in the field many times. I wish him all the best for his new adventure.”
