Despite the reports Modric will continue at Madrid, Inter has not given up and the Croatian is insisting with Real Madrid to be sold, in Spain major sports newspapers have been saying for certain he will stay in the capital for several days.

Starting from this assumption, not yet confirmed or denied by any of the parties invovled, Marca launched a survey on its website asking its readers who of the starters of Lopetegu which lined up yesterday against AC Milan, would they like it to be the same when the start of the season comes, which would leave out Modric.

In short, according to the same press that gives its asserted presence of Modric in Blanco this year, the Croatian would not be a starter.  However, as also underlined by the online edition of the Iberian newspaper, Modric has just returned from the post World Cup holiday and as a result may not have more than yesterday’s short run out in his legs at this stage (even if Brozovic has played a piece of the important match yesterday at the Wanda Metropolitano).

Even if he were to fly with Tallin to Madrid for the European Super Cup, then it is likely he may not find space in the starting line-up just yet.

But Marca also speculates about when he should start again: “The first Sunday of the championship? If it is not the first, it will be the second,” it reads.

What is certain to the Spanish colleagues is that Lopetegui is faced with the first big decision of his management: find a space for the Croatian in the eleven starter and sacrifice one between Casemiro, Kroos and Isco, and Bale, Benzema and Asensio, redesigning, inevitably, the disposition in the field of the players.

There are though few options for the former coach of the Spanish national team, when considering that the first two are irremovable, Isco and Asensio are two of his pupils, and Bale and Benzema are fixed points after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Finally, the question that arises at this spontaneous point is: does it make sense that Modric remains in Madrid? And, above all, for the same Spanish media, was not he the new team leader after the departure of CR7?

The next days will certainly tell us more about his imminent future, the season that is about to start and if he eventually stays at Real, will it be the right solution for everyone?
