Italian pundit Luigi Garlando believes that Lautaro Martinez can fulfil the role of trequartista in the Inter system this season based on his performances over pre-season.

“Lautaro Martinez can fill the role of the trequartista and Radja Nainggolan can play deeper in the midfield however, a 3-4-2-1 with the Bull and the Ninja in support of Mauro Icardi can be a good port of call for Luciano Spalletti tactically too,” Garlando said in an interview with Milan based news outlet Gazzetta dello Sport.

Garlando then went on to suggest that the young Argentine, who arrived this summer from Racing Club, has done enough to warrant being given a chance to nail down a starting berth.

“It is certainly necessary to modify the initial flight plan which provided for Lautaro as a substitute to Maurito but after a pre-season like he has had, the boy deserves the chance to make himself a starter.”
